Okay, I know, it's my third post of the day. I have a lot of opinions today, what can I say?
I voted in yesterday's primary election and opened the paper today to find out the results and was actually apalled at the dismal voter turnout. I realize that the only vote most people in Riverton had was for the mayor but still...We were voting on the candidates for the next leader of our city. Will he raise taxes? Will he improve parks and recreation? Will he entice new businesses to our city? Does anyone care?
Apparently not.
In our city of approximately 35,000 residents only a little over 2100 voted. The 2007 census showed over 21,000 of those were over 18 (able to vote). Less than 1% of the citizens have decided who the two candidates will be on November's ballot. I hope I don't hear too many complaints.

i voted! we had a mayor and a council seat to fill. maybe 2 seats.
ReplyDeletethe workers told me that i was part of the rush of people...there was one other person there. so sad...
I just noticed that you are up to 204 posts can we just stop for a moment and say ....WOW! That is amazing, I love you writing. I love your thoughts and I feel like I know you better because of this.
ReplyDeleteI am having one of those multiple post days. I have a lot to say. MY posts can not be combined because they have nothing to do with each other so I am just going to keep posting until I get it all said.
Voter turnout...ouch...disappointment. I was someone who did not vote because, while I know B Applegarth and like him I feel like I don't know enough about him. So far everything he has done I have liked but, what if there is something I am missing? The other candidates I knew nothing about. I usually like to only make an informed choice when I vote. With no information I felt I would be doing more of a disservice to vote.
May I ask who you voted for? In my family that is like asking what size do you wear, or are your underwear clean? Totally off limits, I never knew why though. I just remember gasps of horror when I would ask as a teenager. Makes me laugh now.
